Mercedes-Benz unveils their first pickup truck ever

german carmaker Mercedes-Benz has unveiled their first pickup truck ever. The company unveiled the vehicle at in Stuttgart, Germany and became the first premium carmaker to make a pickup truck.
Mercedes-Benz has entered the pickup category as the company feels that pickup's are no longer just being seen as a workhorse and are rather becoming lifestyle vehicles. Keeping this in mind, the Mercedes-Benz X-Class pickup truck will be offered in three different variants; Pure, Progressive and Power. While the Pure variant is aimed at functional use, the Progressive is aimed at people who want a pickup truck with styling and comfort. The Power variant is aimed at urban commuters.
It measures 5,340mm in length, 1,920mm in width and 1,819mm in height. The wheelbase is 3,150mm long while the X-Class has a ground clearance of 202mm. A higher suspension can be opted for which raises the height by 20mm.



The X-Class will be available with two 2.3-litre diesel engines. The first one is the X 220d model which will make 163PS of power. The second engine on offer is the X 250d that will make 190PS of power. Both will send power to the rear wheels although they will come selectable all-wheel drive system. Select markets like Dubai and Morocco will also get a 165PS X 200 petrol variant with rear-wheel-drive. All variants will be offered with a six-speed manual transmission, although the X 250d can be bought with a 7-speed automatic gearbox also.

It will go on sale in Germany, sometime at the end of this year. Starting price of the pickup truck is Euro 37,294 (approximately Rs 27.60 lakh). The X-Class will not be coming to India anytime soon though.
